Bathroom Tub Liner Upgrade
Covering a bathtub with a liner
is an acceptable method of upgrading the appearance of the room, especially
when you want to save the floor or wall tiles. Bathtub refinishing and bathtub
resurfacing involve surface restoration processes. This can be done at a fraction
of the cost of a new bath tub.
Bath Tub Refinishing
Resurfacing and refinishing a bath tub requires trained craftsmen. The professional refinishers will give your old bath tub an upgrade by ridding it of unsightly stains, scratches, dents and leaks and giving it a totally new appearance. Bath tub restoration also involves removal and reinstallation of drains. The tub and tile joints must be re-caulked and the chrome fixtures must be cleaned. Finally the tub has to be polished to a deep gloss. Refinishing a bath tub involves acid etching, cleaning and sanding your tub. You will need to prime the tub and apply 4 coats of finish on it. If your tub has already been glazed once, it is necessary to strip the surface that was glazed earlier. These products give off hazardous fumes, so it is necessary to keep the area well ventilated. Finally the new finish must be applied. Due to the fact that these systems are merely paint coatings, they only lie on the surface and create a weak bond at best. The coating must be allowed to air cure for 24 to 72 hours before the bathtub can be used. The finish is not permanent and can eventually fail, chip, fade and peel.
