Kitchen Counter Tops
Granite counters
Stone countertops are popular on account of their natural beauty. Granite remains a favorite as a countertop material since it is heat resistant and durable. Though it is relatively more expensive, granite counters provide an elegant finish to your kitchen. Since granite is non-porous, it is a popular choice for kitchen countertops. These countertops come in a limited range of colors but offer timeless elegance and ruggedness. The natural elegance of wood makes it a good choice for a kitchen countertop. But it can be easily dented, scratched or burnt. Solid surface countertops are another durable alternative. Made of polyurethane or acrylic, these countertops are not as expensive as natural stone counters. They can be easily scratched or discolored due to heat. Marble, limestone, slate and natural quartz are other natural stones that are used for kitchen counters. Marble is not as durable as granite while limestone can stain easily. Slate is hard and durable. Average stone countertops range from $70 to $100.
Tile counters
With the range of tiles available these days, it is little wonder that tile countertops have created a niche market. Choose from ceramic, porcelain or natural stone or mosaic tiles - and you can put together a countertop that can be an artistic statement. You can create a kitchen countertop that is unique - combine vintage tiles with monochrome tiles to create a visually stunning effect. Tile countertops are heat and moisture resistant but do not offer a smooth surface. The spaces between tiles must be filled with epoxy grout. Typically ceramic tile countertops range from about $1 to $100, depending on the type and quality of tiles used.
Formica counters
Laminate countertops or Formica counters are popular on account of the wide range of patterns and finishes. Plastic laminates are relatively inexpensive and can be easily fitted and installed. Since it is stain resistant and moisture resistant, laminate is a popular choice as a new countertop. You have to be careful not to place hot items on the surface as it may lead to cracking and blistering. Higher end laminate counters such as Formica Countertops are melamine based and are available in a range of finishes that even mimic natural stone and wood. Laminates are the most popular countertop choice since they are inexpensive and easy to maintain. They are impact resistant and cost anywhere between $5 and $20 per square foot. Stainless steel countertops for the kitchen are an alternative when considering new countertops. Generally these counters are attached to plywood so as to provide strength. Stainless steel offers ease in cleaning and maintenance but is easily prone to denting and scratching. Typically, the cost of stainless steel countertops varies from about $ 85 to $ 100 per square foot.
Corian counters
Corian counters have become synonymous with elegance, durability and versatility. These countertops are stain resistant and easy to clean. Available in stunning colors and finishes, Corian counters can be teamed with tile and granite for a customized look.
