Other Rooms, Other Plans

rooms remodeling ideas and plans
In this section of Home-Remodeling4U we'll deal with the "other" rooms; the ones that we might jokingly define as those that do not contain any plumbing. Every room in the house is designed with comfort and practicality in mind, and while each home requires a kitchen and a bath, the function of the other rooms in the house are up to the whims of the homeowner.

We're all familiar with typical home configurations; common rooms like the living room, dining room and bedrooms are discussed in separate sections. In this section, we'll take a look at "other rooms," rooms that are typically add-ons or remodels done at the behest of the homeowner.

Remodeling Uncommon Spaces

These rooms involve taking common spaces and making uncommon rooms out of them - for example, turning an unneeded bedroom into an art studio or a home theater- or taking uncommon spaces and turning them into common rooms, like converting an attic or a basement into a needed bedroom.

So in this section we'll deal with the likes of media and entertainment rooms, home gyms, home offices, home theaters, music rooms, nurseries and a variety of others. We'll also talk about converting those unconventional spaces into much needed space, concentrating on attics, basements and garages.

Some Thoughts Before You Start

All of these rooms have one thing in common; they require thought and planning. Take some time to digest the space you are considering remodeling. Is it the right size and shape for your plan? Is it located in the proper area within the home? What about its orientation, is it sunny and bright, or dark and shadowy? Proper attention in the earliest stages of planning can save you a great deal of time, money and aggravation.

So browse around to get some ideas, or focus on that one room you have been researching. We can give you some simple tips, or maybe just point you in the right direction. Relax, enjoy and learn.
