Corner to Corner - Vinyl Siding: Before you Move On - Installing the Next Corner

Corner to Corner - Vinyl Siding

Before You Move On

Once your first corner is installed, you need to measure from the bottom edge of the corner post, to the mark you made when locating the lowest corner. Whatever this measurement is, you will need to make it the same on all inside and outside corners, except if you have a Patio or wrap-around porch, that totally changes the location and size of the post.

Installing the Next Corner

Next, move to the next corner, whether it is inside or outside. Use the same method for fitting the top of the corner. Then hold the corner in place and measure down from your level mark, the same distance you measured a moment ago. Place a mark on the corner piece and cut it straight across at that mark. This will give you a good reference point and insure that you have a level appearance across the bottom and that will also help you stay straight as you install your new Vinyl Siding up the wall.

Moving Around The House

I will be honest here. Once I have two adjoining corners up, sometimes I will go ahead and trim out the windows and start siding that wall. The reason is, if you are installing vinyl siding for someone, they can´t wait to see what their new siding is going to look like, and it makes them feel better. If they´re not home though, the most efficient method is to continue around the house and put all the corners on, inside and out, before moving on.

Again, our example home is a one story building. If it is two or more, you are only going to put corners up as high as you can reach because it doesn´t make sense to tear down scaffling and ladders to just install corners and then go back and set them up again to install J and siding. Take your time with the corners and get them on right! Double-check yourself and make sure they are going on straight and that each face follows the face of the wall. The outside corners should be a perfect 90 degrees.

Back to Square One

Now that you have gone completely around the house, you´re back to the first corner that you installed. Pat yourself on the back, you just completed a very important phase of the project. Have a glass of lemonade and get ready to put on Starter Strip.
